The Council, which meets twice per year, will gather in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The event will bring together members of the Council and other IRENA Member States to discuss the work of the Council and its Administration and Finance, and Programme and Strategy Committees, among other issues. The current Members of the IRENA Council are Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Denmark, Ecuador, Eritrea, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Poland, the Republic of Korea, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tonga, the United Arab Emirates and the US.

This workshop on the Global Environment Facility (GEF) International Waters (IW) projects will seek to enable inter-basin cooperation in the African region. The workshop will: present key approaches and methodologies for economic valuation, payment for ecosystem services (PES) and ecosystem-based approaches (EBA) for freshwater and marine resources; exchange experiences, increase awareness of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Watercourses Convention) and its global expansion; and identify next steps in the context of GEF IW projects.

Held jointly with the Second All-Africa Energy Week, the 2012 Conference of Energy Ministers of Energy Africa (CEMA) is being held under the theme "Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development: From potential to infrastructure and services." The Conference is expected to take stock of progress in the African energy sector, improve strategic and operational tools to support the implementation of the African energy agenda, and encourage strategic partnerships and build capacity within the sector.

Held jointly with the second regular session of the AU Conference of Energy Ministers of Africa, All-Africa Energy Week (AAEW) is being held under the theme "Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development: From potential to infrastructure services." The AAEW will comprise of thematic sessions, including "stepping up hydropower development for regional integration," "solar energy viability in Africa," and "harnessing wind and geothermal potentials." The AAEW will also host an investment forum to provide a platform for information exchange and partnerships between policy makers, as well as a technology exhibition.
