Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum

This meeting is co-hosted by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and IGAD's Climate Prediction and Applications Centre, and supported by the UN Strategy on Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The Forum will discuss the prospects for the March-to-May rainy season and consider measures to ensure that early warning leads to early action in the event of a failure of the rains. In addition, ICPAC and UN/ISDR will hold joint training sessions to help strengthen the existing cooperation between climate scientists and disaster risk managers to advance information sharing for disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the region.

CBD African Workshop on Updating NBSAPs

The purpose of this Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) workshop is to address various issues that countries in the region may have encountered or will encounter while updating their national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs), with a focus on target setting, stakeholder engagement and the development of country-specific plans for mobilizing financial resources for the implementation of NBSAPs. In addition, the workshop will focus specifically on the economics of ecosystems and biodiversity as an important tool for biodiversity mainstreaming.

Commission on the Status of Women: 56th Session

The 56th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 56) will take place at UN Headquarters, in New York, US, from 27 February-9 March 2012. The priority theme will be the empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges.

Intergovernmental Committee of Experts for the Central African Region: 28th Session

The 28th Session of the International Committee of Experts for the Central African Region, convened under the auspices of the Sub-Regional Office for Central Africa of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), will address topics under the theme "Addressing Central Africa's Energy Challenges".
