27th Session of UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum

The first universal session of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 18-22 February 2013. The Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) constitutes the ministerial-level global environmental forum in which participants gather to review important and emerging policy issues in the field of the environment. Among other matters, this first-ever universal session of the UNEP GC/GMEF is expected to discuss: the new Minamata Convention on Mercury and the Executive Director's report on financing options for chemicals and wastes; enhancing cooperation and coordination within the chemicals and wastes cluster; sustainable consumption and production; and justice, governance and law for environmental sustainability.

CBD Sub-regional Workshop on Valuation and Incentive Measures for Sub-Saharan West Africa

This workshop is one of a series of regional sub-regional capacity-building workshops organized with a view to support countries in making use of the findings of the study on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB), in integrating the values of biodiversity into relevant national and local policies, programmes and planning processes, and in promoting the exchange among practitioners on practical experiences on incentive measures.

Regional Great Lakes Stakeholder Forum

This meeting is organized by the Albertine Rift Conservation Society as part of a regional Stakeholders Engagement for Informed Decision-Making, Threats Mitigation and Sustainable Fresh Water Services Management in the Great Lakes Region of East and Central Africa project. The forum will convene under the theme "Addressing the drivers of change in the Freshwater Systems of the Great Lakes Region". The two-day event will take place in the framework of the project ARCOS is implementing with funding support from the MacArthur Foundation and in partnership with Lake Tanganyika Authority, Nile Basin Discourse, Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa, BirdLife International/Africa Partnership Secretariat and IUCN-Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office.
