The 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 16) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) will address proposals to amend the Convention appendices and several administrative, strategic and financial issues. CITES was adopted in Washington DC, US, on 3 March 1973, and the 40th anniversary of the Convention will be celebrated at the March 2013 event.

14th SIPAM Annual Meeting

In July 2008, the Information System for the Promotion of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean (SIPAM) was handed over to the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Secretariat for its institutional function. The 14th SIPAM Annual Meeting will take place in Paris, France.

Third Africa Wide Consultation on Post-2015 Development Agenda

This meeting represents the third and final regional consultation to define Africa's position on post-2015 development priorities. The consultation will include panel discussions and sessions on development issues, including education, human development, inclusive and sustainable growth and technological innovation. The meeting is expected to finalize a common African position that will be endorsed by Ministers at the African Union (AU) Summit in May 2013. The African Development Bank (AfDB), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Africa Union Commission (AUC) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) are the co-organizers of the consultation. Previous consultations were held in in Mombasa, Kenya, in October 2012, and in Dakar, Senegal, in December 2012.

High-level Meeting on National Drought Policy: Towards More Drought Resilient Societies

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), in collaboration with a number of UN agencies, international and regional organizations and key national agencies, are organizing the High-level Meeting on National Drought Policy (HMNDP) in Geneva, Switzerland, in March 2013. HMNDP will provide practical insight into useful, science-based actions to address the key drought issues being considered by governments and the private sector under the UNCCD and the various strategies to cope with drought. HMNDP will start with a half-day opening plenary, with a major keynote address, followed by three days of scientific segment, and a High Level segment for ministers.
