High-Level Meeting of ECOSOC with Bretton Woods Institutions, WTO and UNCTAD

A special high-level meeting of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with the Bretton Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will take place on 22 April 2013. The overall theme of the meeting is “Coherence, coordination and cooperation in the context of financing for development and the post-2015 development agenda”. The event will include: a high-level interactive panel discussion with Ministers of Finance and Development Cooperation, Governors of Central Banks and inter-governmental representatives at the ministerial level on “World economic situation and prospects in the wake of the world financial and economic crisis;" a thematic debate on “Financing for sustainable development, including leveraging of private capital, in the context of the follow-up to the outcome of the Rio+20 Conference;" and a thematic debate on “Global partnership for development in the context of the post-2015 development agenda".

FAO/NEPAD Workshop on Climate Change, Disasters and Crises in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector in Southern and Eastern Africa

This regional workshop on climate change, disasters and crises in the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Southern and Eastern Africa is jointly organized by the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Fish Programme (NFFP), and the Smartfish Programme of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The objective of the workshop is to establish the current baseline with regard to the integration of climate change adaptation and disaster risk management in fisheries and aquaculture activities and policies in Southern and Eastern Africa, and, vice versa, determine the extent of integration of fisheries and aquaculture in climate change adaptation and disaster risk management strategies and plans. The overall aim is to coordinate activities and identify gaps and priority actions to be supported by the NFFP and other partners.

22nd Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

The agenda for the 22nd Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice includes a thematic discussion on the challenge posed by emerging forms of crime that have a significant impact on the environment and ways to deal with it effectively, including possible responses, programmes and initiatives to deal effectively with forms of crime that have a significant impact on the environment.

RIMES Training Workshop on Iterative Risk Management for Climate Change Adaptation

The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is organizing a five-day Training Workshop on Iterative Risk Management (IRM) for Climate Change Adaptation. The training aims to build the capacity of participants to design and implement iterative and flexible risk management plans. The training includes two parts: three days of lectures and discussions; and a two-day planning workshop. The lectures include a module each on: risk-based approaches to climate change adaptation; the IRM approach, including the IRM process and its application to development and disaster risk reduction (DRR); and IRM and the policy environment for climate change adaptation. During the planning workshop, participants will design IRM Plans for their organization. RIMES development partners include the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

WIPO IGC 24

Following renewal of its mandate by the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the 24th session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) will continue negotiations on an international instrument/instruments, focusing on traditional knowledge and particularly the subject matter of protection, beneficiaries, scope of protection, and limitation and exceptions.
