At its seventeenth meeting, the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is expected to address, among others, issues related to marine and coastal biodiversity, biodiversity and climate change, and collaboration with IPBES.

The 37th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 37) will consider for approval two methodology reports: the "2013 Supplement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories: Wetlands”; and the good practice guidance on estimating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals from land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) under the Kyoto Protocol.

The ninth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC 9) will review chlorinated naphthalenes, hexachlorobutadiene, hexabromocyclododecane, and pentachlorophenol and its salts and esters, as well as discuss other technical work such as the impact of climate change on the POPRC's work and common issues in applying Annex E criteria. A joint meeting with the Rotterdam Convention's Chemical Review Committee (CRC) may be held on 19 October 2013, if approved by the joint Basel/Rotterdam/Stockholm COPs.

Africa Climate Conference 2013

Convened by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the African Climate Policy Center (ACPC), the Africa Climate Conference 2013 (ACC-2013) will bring together stakeholders to identify the state of knowledge on the African climate system, including gaps in knowledge, put forward an African agenda for future climate research to inform adaptation decisions, and develop a framework for mainstreaming climate change into policy.

World Food Day: Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition

“Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition” will be the focus of World Food Day in 2013. The official World Food Day theme – announced at the start of every year by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) – gives focus to World Food Day observances and helps increase understanding of problems and solutions in the drive to end hunger.
