This meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction (BBNJ) is the second of three meetings (April 2014, June 2014 and January 2015) that the UN General Assembly (UNGA) requested be convened. The meetings aim to make recommendations to the UNGA on the scope, parameters and feasibility of an international instrument under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). These three meetings are expected to result in a summary of discussions that will be submitted to the President of the UNGA, and are anticipated to contribute to a decision to be taken at the 69th Session of the UNGA on the development of a new international instrument under UNCLOS.

The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) will consider Emission Reductions Program Idea Notes (ER-PIN) from Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Peru, Republic of Congo and Viet Nam at the tenth meeting of the Carbon Fund. The meeting will also consider the Emission Reductions Program Document (ER-PD) template as well as the emission reductions buffer maintained by the FCPF.

At the close of the Sixth Session of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG 6) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Co-Chairs outlined options for the next phase of the process. The dates of a further set of formal OWG meetings were finalized at the conclusion of OWG 7. They will take place on: 3-5 March (OWG 9), 31 March - 4 April (OWG 10), 5-9 May (OWG 11), 16-20 June (OWG 12) and 14-18 July 2014 (OWG 13). Informal-informal consultations will be scheduled during the week before OWG-12.

At its fifth meeting, the Working Group on Review of Implementation (WGRI) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is expected to address, among other issues, implementation of the Strategy for Resource Mobilization, the efficiency of structures and processes under the Convention and its protocols, and biodiversity and development.

The Near East-North Africa (NENA) Soil Partnership will bring together representatives from NENA national soil institutions to help advance the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) in the region. The conference aims to: take stock of the status, needs and priorities for promoting sustainable soil management in the NENA region; institutionalize the NENA Soil Partnership by establishing its secretariat and a steering committee; present the results and gaps of Phase I of the NENA Soil Information System; and define a roadmap for implementing the Partnership.
